ABOUT THE ARTIST

After completing the art programs at Dundas Valley College of Art and the Nova Scotia College of Art, Angellos came to visit the west coast of Canada. Inspired by the mountains, and attracted to the easygoing lifestyle, he moved to Gabriola Island, in the Gulf Island chain, between Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia.

The smooth forms of driftwood and sandstone, as well as traditional native artwork, inspired Angellos to explore wood as a sculptural media. Economic pressure, and his desire to improve his marketability, led him to expand his repertoire, first from in the round sculptures, and then on to carved doors and mirrors, and finally to an interest in designing and making furniture.

Angellos registered in a furniture making school, enabling him to refine his skills, and laying down a foundation for creating functional interior pieces. His appreciation for texture and colour, coupled with his love of wood, provide new inspiration in design. Angellos has also branched into metal work. He explored form through sculpture, and quickly moved into furniture and other functional pieces. He has been commissioned to create an ocean themed gate, complete with swimming tortoises, rafts of jelly fish and schools off flying fish.

Angellos has moved from small furniture pieces, to conception and design of office spaces. A recent commission was to design and construct a bar in an upscale pub in North Nanaimo.
