West Coast Arts For Sale
This piece was hand forged and fabricated from steel plate and solid round stock. Gracefully flowing along the ocean floor. The ray floats along seemingly light as a feather. Fins undulating as it swims along with the currents. The piece is fairly detailed. The eyes and spiny tail on the top surface mouth and gills underneath. Along with a feeling of lightness and motion, people are often surprised when they see how fluid and even realistic things can be when forged from such a base material.
The piece has been rusted and then heat-treated to provide a dark, rich patina. The rocky ground area is made from a single Western Maple burl. It has a clear lacquer finish.
It is on display in Castlegar, BC as part of the Sculpture Walk Program.
This piece celebrates the beauty and freedom of creatures living in harmony both above and below the ocean’s surface. The Turtle is swimming and has a feeling of weightlessness as it floats off the edge of the hand carved Maple base and into the world beyond. The turtle has been hand forged from 1/8” plate steel. This piece has been heat treated to provide a dark, rich colour and has a clear lacquer finish.
This piece is a glimpse of our forests; it depicts both the beauty and strength of nature. The medium is cold rolled steel and granite. The “wood” trunks emerge out of the base. They rise up, intertwining around each other as they reach up to the sun. The branches and trunks are textured to look like tree bark. The Moss Green Granite is shaped to resemble a forest canopy. The granite edge has been hand shaped and polished.
This piece has a feeling of strength and permanence. The steel conveys a sense of power. My inspiration is to have it look like stone and steel forged from nature itself, resistant to Man’s interference and destructive nature. The patina has been achieved using flame and light sanding. It has a clear lacquer finish.
Medium: Mild steel and copper, 9'-6" tall. Currently on display in downtown Nanaimo, BC. Available for purchase May 2019
